Six Cowgirls Recognized on 2019 All-Big 12 Teams
May 08, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
IRVING, Texas – Six members of the Oklahoma State softball team were recognized by the Big 12 for their outstanding seasons, as the 2019 All-Big 12 Softball Awards were announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office.
Samantha Show and Rylee Bayless highlight the group, with both earning All-Big 12 First Team honors. Show, a transfer from Texas A&M, was one of four league competitors to be a unanimous first-team selection, while Wednesday's announcement marked the second time Bayless has earned first-team status during her Cowgirl career.
In her lone season as a Cowgirl, Samantha Show has lit Stillwater, and the softball world, on fire with her breathtaking performances.
She has hit 16 home runs - an OSU single-season record, driven in 47 runs, logged 110 total bases and is slugging .724 as a batter, all of which lead the Cowgirls this season. The right-hander has also been dominant in the circle, leading Oklahoma State with 24 starts, 16 wins, 15 complete games, six shutouts, 146 innings pitched, 94 strikeouts and a .229 batting average against.
Bayless, meanwhile, has shined in her return to the OSU lineup after redshirting in 2018 due to a torn ACL.
The Kansas City, Missouri, native ranked second among Big 12 players with a .431 batting average during conference play, and her .500 on-base percentage was fifth among league competitors.
Overall, Bayless has recorded 22 extra-base hits, seven of which have been home runs, and her 52 hits is tied with Madi Sue Montgomery for the Cowgirl lead in 2019.
Montgomery and sophomore Michaela Richbourg were named second-team All-Big 12 performers in Wednesday's announcement. It was the first time Richbourg has earned the conference's end-of-year distinction, and the fourth time Montgomery has done so.
Montgomery is only the third Cowgirl to be named an all-conference competitor four times during the Big 12 era (1996-present). The only two to previously achieve the feat were three-time All-American Jaime Foutch (1996-99) and two-time Olympian Lauren Bay (2000-03).
Rounding out the Cowgirls' All-Big 12 honorees is a pair of freshmen in Chyenne Factor and Kiley Naomi.
Both youngsters were named to the Big 12's All-Freshman team, with Factor being one of seven selected unanimously. It is the third time that OSU has had multiple players selected to the All-Freshman team during Kenny Gajewski's four seasons as head coach.
Factor and Naomi have both been instrumental in Oklahoma State's success this season, and some of their numbers rank them among the most productive freshmen in school history.
Factor, a Yukon, Oklahoma, native, is currently batting .343 - the second-highest average on the team - and has hit seven home runs to go along with 33 runs batted in.
Her seven home runs are tied for the third-highest total by a freshman in school history, while her .598 slugging percentage ranks second and her .430 on-base percentage is tied for fifth among first-year players in OSU history.
Naomi, meanwhile, has racked up a large portion of her record-pacing numbers as a defender and a force on the basepaths.
The Maurice, Louisiana, native has helped turn 16 double plays this season, the most of any Cowgirl and tied for the second-best single-season total in school history. It is the highest total for a freshman in OSU history, and is four off the program's top mark, regardless of class.
As a batter and baserunner, Naomi has drawn 27 walks and stolen 16 bases this season.
Her 27 free passes are tied for the second most by a freshman in school history and trail only Vanessa Shippy's total of 30 from back in 2015. Naomi's 16 stolen bases rank third among OSU freshman all-time, and she sits second among Big 12 competitors in that category this season.
Oklahoma State's four All-Big 12 honorees is tied as the program's best total since having five competitors recognized in 2010. The Cowgirls' six total honorees is the same number as the 2018 team produced, and is the highest mark for OSU during Gajewski's reign as head coach.
Only Oklahoma had more players recognized by the Big 12 than Oklahoma State in Wednesday's announcement.
