OSU Track and Field Leads Big 12 in Academic Honors

IRVING, Texas—The Oklahoma State men's and women's track and field teams led the Big 12 in Academic All-Big 12 awards, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Cowboys led all men's teams with 22 honorees and the Cowgirls had the most women's honorees with 31.
The Big 12 had nine men earn a 4.00 GPA overall, and the Cowboys make up a majority of that group with five athletes earning a perfect GPA. The Cowgirls had 13 of the conference's 34 women who earned 4.00 GPAs.
Cole Verble was one of the five Cowboys to earn a 4.00 GPA and first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors. Verble was also named the OSU Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in April. He also was honored as a Senior of Significance in the fall.
Noah Gade added another academic award to his long list of academic accolades. The award is Gade's fifth First Team Academic All-Big 12 award. He was also honored as a Google Cloud Academic All-American for the 2018-18 season, and he won the 2017 Cross Country Elite 90 Award.
Ariane Ballner was one of the Cowgirls who earned first-team honors with a perfect GPA. She was also honored as a Google Cloud All-American in June as well as first-team academic conference honors for the 2018 cross country season.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
