Show, Montgomery Honored With All-America Accolades
May 29, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Oklahoma State softball seniors Samantha Show and Madi Sue Montgomery were both recognized by various outlets as All-America performers after their outstanding 2019 seasons Wednesday afternoon.
Show earned NFCA third-team All-America honors - the first selection of her career - after a dominant year both in the circle and at the plate.
The right-hander leads Oklahoma State in earned run average (2.37), innings pitched (183.1), strikeouts (111), starts (30), complete games (19), wins (21) and opponent batting average (.220). She has led the line for OSU in its biggest moments this season, as Show has thrown 84.1 of a possible 118 innings for the Cowgirls when facing top-15 opponents.
The senior has helped OSU go 10-7 in those matchups, which includes a pair of victories over No. 4 Florida State during the Tallahassee Super Regional last weekend.
She has also posted three shutouts against ranked competition, as she has kept No. 13 Arizona State, No. 24 Oregon and No. 9 Texas off the board at varying points in the 2019 campaign.
As a hitter, Show has amassed 125 total bases on 59 hits, logged 12 doubles and smacked 18 home runs, which is an OSU single-season record. She has also logged a team-high 54 RBI while batting primarily out of the two-hole in coach Kenny Gajewski's lineup.
With her NFCA-awarded accolade, Show brings home the 34th All-America honor in OSU history and the fourth of the Gajewski era. Vanessa Shippy (2015-18) was previously honored in each of Gajewski's first three seasons as head coach.
The East Bernard, Texas, native also received recognition by Softball America Wednesday, as Show was named a second-team All-American. Montgomery, meanwhile, was selected as a third-team All-American by the news site.
Montgomery has set a number of OSU records in her final collegiate season this year, including setting the programs new benchmark for most games played, most games started, most consecutive games started and most career runs batted in, among others.
This season, the left-handed slugger leads Oklahoma State with a .353 batting average and is getting on base at a .442 clip. Both of those marks are set to smash her previous career highs as she wraps up her Cowgirl career this week as a program record holder, a four-time All-Big 12 honoree and a three-time NFCA All-Region selection.
Montgomery is just the third OSU player in the Big 12 era to be selected to an All-Big 12 team in four consecutive seasons. She joins Jaime Foutch (1996-99) and Lauren Bay (2000-03) as the only members of that exclusive Cowgirl club.
She has 31 home runs, 51 doubles and 203 runs batted in to her credit in her highly-successful career and those make her just the second player in league history to record at least 30 home runs, 50 doubles and 200 RBI. Oklahoma's Sydney Romero is the only other Big 12 player to do so.
As a note, the NCAA only recognizes the NFCA's All-America selections for its official record books.
