Big 12 Softball Championship Washed Out
May 11, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY – The final day of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship, including OSU's appearance in the tournament's championship game this evening, has been canceled due to poor field conditions after inclement weather in the Oklahoma City area last night.
OSU posted two wins in Friday's pool play round, besting No. 8 Texas, 6-2, in the opening game of the tournament before putting a 17-2 run-rule win over Iowa State to close out the day. The Cowgirls' 17-run outburst is the highest single-game output for any OSU team in a postseason contest, and the 15-run difference is the program's largest margin of victory in a postseason game in school history.
Oklahoma State entered the weekend at No. 12 in the NCAA's RPI Rankings, and at No. 14 in both national polls. Those rankings, along with two impressive wins, put the Pokes in prime position to be selected as one of the 16 NCAA Regional hosts for the start of next weekend's NCAA Tournament.
OSU has not hosted a regional in Stillwater since 1998, when the Cowgirls eventually made the program's sixth appearance in the Women's College World Series. The Pokes last postseason action in Stillwater came in 2011 when OSU hosted a super regional against Houston and made its seventh WCWS appearance.
The Cowgirls now turn their attention toward Selection Sunday, where they will learn of their postseason fate. The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will air Sunday night at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
