Sinclaire Johnson Recognized as Big 12 Athlete of the Week
May 01, 2019 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
IRVING, Texas—Oklahoma State's Sinclaire Johnson was named a Big 12 Track and Field Athlete of the Week.
She anchored both the 4X800-meter and 4X1,600-meter relays to victories at the Drake Relays last weekend. Johnson split 2:02.79 on the final leg of the 4X800-meter relay to help the Cowgirls set the Drake Relays record in the event. The Cowgirls also ran a school record and a world lead in the 4X800-meter relay.
The wins helped seal the Cowgirls' third sweep of the distance relays at the Drake Relays. The sweep of the distance relays (4X800, 4X1,600 and DMR) has been completed six times, and the Cowgirls take claim to three of those sweeps.
Johnson is no stranger to weekly recognition. She was recognized as a Big 12 Cross Country Athlete of the Week in October after her victory at the Arturo Barrios Invitational. She won the award alongside fellow OSU runner Ashenafi Hatte.
The junior from Longwood, Florida, is positioned for another run at All-America honors at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Johnson is currently No. 2 in the country in the women's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:13.35. Her time is also the Big 12 lead, and her 2:02.79 split would be first in the conference and third in the country had the time come in a solo 800-meter race.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls take on the Arkansas Twilight on Friday to close out the regular season before visiting Norman for the Big 12 Outdoor Championships next weekend.
