Cowgirls Falter at UT Arlington
April 03, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The No. 16 Oklahoma State softball team lost in midweek action for the second time this season Wednesday, as the Cowgirls were bested by UT Arlington, 2-1, at Allan Saxe Field.
OSU (26-11; 4-2 Big 12) mustered just three hits in Wednesday's matchup and left five runners on base.
"Just a very, very poorly-played game and credit UTA for taking advantage of their opportunities," coach Kenny Gajewski said. "Hard one to take for us coming off the weekend we just had, and to come out here and lay an egg like we did - I'm just so disappointed in our mentality, our at-bats stunk all day and our defense was poor. Just a really, really poor effort and that's what's disappointing. We have to get back to the drawing board and get ready for conference play again this Friday night."
Samantha Show supplied Oklahoma State's lone run against UTA as she scorched a solo home run to left field in the top of the fourth inning. It was Show's team-high 11th home run this season, bringing her within four of Madi Sue Montgomery's OSU single-season record that was set last year.
Show also started Wednesday's game in the circle, pitching 5.2-plus innings and allowing only one earned run. She fell to 11-5 with the loss and has dropped back-to-back decisions for the first time this season.
UTA's offense was scrappy throughout, and the Cowgirl defense helped out their opponents at times.
In the fourth inning, the Mavericks answered Show's solo home run with a game-tying score that was the result of two infield errors and a wild pitch. UTA scored in the bottom of the sixth after a leadoff walk, double to left and the game-clinching single back up the middle.
OSU will look to bounce back this weekend when the Cowgirls return home to host Kansas in a three-game set. The first pitch of the series is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday night at Cowgirl Stadium.
