LUBBOCK, Texas – Oklahoma State dropped a 10-2 contest to No. 15 Texas Tech Saturday night at Rip Griffin Park.
With the loss, the 16th-ranked Cowboys fell to 25-15 overall and 10-7 in Big 12 Conference play. TTU improved to 28-13 and 10-7 in the league and is now 20-4 on its home field this season.
Trevor Boone continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-3 night that included a home run and a double, but the Cowboys managed just five hits and struck out 13 times in the contest.
Parker Scott suffered his first loss of the season to fall to 2-1 as the southpaw allowed four runs, only two of them earned, on six hits while striking out four.
OSU fell behind early as a pair of errors proved costly in the first inning, with miscues by Hueston Morrill and Colin Simpson leading to two unearned runs. The Red Raiders plated their first run on a wild pitch before a single by Big 12-RBI leader Cameron Warren made the score 2-0.
The Cowboys did not trail long, however, as they tied things up via the long ball in the second. With one out, Carson McCusker was hit by a pitch, and up next, Boone smashed his Big 12-leading 15th home run of the season, an opposite-field shot over the wall in right to tie the score at 2-2.
TTU regained the lead with a round tripper of its own in the third. Following a leadoff double by Brian Klein, Josh Jung stepped to the plate and deposited a Scott offering over the center-field wall to put the home team on top by a 4-2 margin.
The 4-2 score held until the seventh when TTU added three insurance runs, drawing a leadoff walk against Jake Lyons before recording four hits against Logan Gragg to take a 7-2 advantage.
The Red Raiders struck for three more runs in the eighth to put the game away.
The two teams conclude the series Sunday at 2 p.m.
