Cowgirl Softball Climbs to No. 12

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team continued its ascent in the national rankings this week, as the Cowgirls moved up one spot to No. 12 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and remained at No. 13 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
OSU has been ranked in the top of at least one of the national polls for 11 consecutive weeks, marking the longest such stretch by a Cowgirl squad since 2010. The Pokes have also been ranked in at least one of the national polls in 23 of the last 25 weeks, with Tuesday's No. 12 ranking marking the program's highest standing since finishing the 2011 season at No. 8.
The Cowgirls are currently 33-11 (10-2 Big 12) and are riding a seven-game winning streak heading into midweek action. This past week, OSU won its only scheduled contest to finish .500 or better for the 11th-straight week.
Oklahoma State's victory was a 5-0 shutout of its in-state foe Tulsa, which was receiving votes in both national polls last week. It was the 16th this season that the Pokes have bested a team either ranked or receiving votes in 22 such matchups.
This week, OSU is set to wrap up its midweek schedule with a visit to North Texas Wednesday night, and then the Cowgirls will refocus on chasing their first conference championship since 1995. The Big 12 title hunt continues with a three-game series against No. 13/16 Texas Tech, which begins Friday in Stillwater.
