Cowgirl Softball Climbs Rankings After Top-10 Wins

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State softball team jumped in both national rankings this week, as the Cowgirls climbed five spots to No. 16 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and bumped up three spots to No. 13 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
OSU has been ranked in the top 20 of at least one of the national polls for eight consecutive weeks, marking the longest such stretch by a Cowgirl squad since 2010. The Pokes have also been ranked in at least one of the national polls in 20 of the last 22 weeks, with Tuesday's ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 standing marking the program's highest ranking since finishing the 2011 season at No. 8.
The Cowgirls are currently 26-10 (4-2 Big 12) and coming their eighth-straight week of finishing .500 or better.
OSU went 3-1 last week, picking up a comeback victory at Wichita State, 9-6, last Wednesday before taking two of three from then-No. 9 Texas at Cowgirl Stadium over the weekend. The Cowgirls' blanked the Longhorns in both of the series' first two games to claim their third-straight series victory over the Lonestar State staples.
It was the first time that OSU has shutout a top-10 opponent in back-to-back games since April 13, 1994, when the Pokes blanked then-No. 7 Oklahoma in both halves of a doubleheader.
OSU has four contests on its schedule this week, and they'll get another jam-packed slate started Wednesday night at UT Arlington. Following that, the Cowgirls will be back in Stillwater for a three-game set against Kansas. The Jayhawks are riding high after taking two of three from Baylor in conference play last weekend, so it should make for an entertaining weekend of Big 12 action at the corner of Duck and McElroy.
