STILLWATER – Oklahoma State had its four-game home winning streak snapped Tuesday night as the 23rd-ranked Cowboys dropped an 8-4 game to Central Arkansas at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
A seven-run fourth inning by the Bears doomed OSU as the Pokes fell to 18-9 on the season; UCA snapped a three-game losing skid to improve to 13-16.
Logan Gragg started on the mound and worked two innings for the Cowboys, giving up one run on two hits and taking the loss to fall to 0-2.
Offensively, Alix Garcia tied a career high with three hits, while Trevor Boone and Cade Cabbiness both homered for the Cowboys.
UCA scored the game's first run in the top of the second on Tyler Smith's single and held the 1-0 lead until the fourth.
After tossing a scoreless third inning, Mitchell Stone ran into trouble in the fourth. Following a strikeout to open the inning, the Bears got back-to-back singles before a groundout put two runners in scoring position with two outs.
UCA then reeled off five consecutive hits, the big blow coming on Beau Orlando's three-run homer, to plate seven runs and take an 8-0 advantage.
OSU finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when Boone launched his sixth home run of the season over the left-field wall. Garcia followed with a single before Cabbiness drove a ball to the opposite field over the wall in left to trim the Cowboys' deficit to 8-3.
John Kelly, making his second-career appearance, pitched three scoreless innings and struck out four while allowing just two hits before turning the ball over to fellow bullpen arm Peyton Battenfield in the eighth.
Battenfield retired all six batters he faced in two innings of work, striking out five in a row to cap his performance.
Still trailing 8-3 in the ninth, OSU tried to rally as Garcia drove in a run with a two-out single. But it was too little too late for the Cowboys as Max Hewitt grounded out to end the game and strand runners on the corners.
The Cowboys return to Big 12 Conference action Friday when they host West Virginia. First pitch for the opener is set for 6:05 p.m.
