April 19, 2019 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
NORMAN— The Oklahoma State track and field teams opened the weekend at the John Jacobs Invitational at the John Jacobs Track and Field Complex on Friday night.
Jocelen Ruth threw a new personal best in the hammer throw. She put up a mark of 50.61m/166-0, which also set the new season best mark by a Cowgirl. Her mark moves her into No. 6 in school history in the event.
Throws coach Josh Langley said Ruth didn't have the best warm-up or first couple of throws.
"I'm happy with the way Jocelen (Ruth) battled back and competed," Langley said. "She did a great job of overcoming some struggles to start her day, but I'm proud of how she answered and continued to battle for a new personal best."
Torrey Hickel and Michael Releford finished in the top five of the men's shot put. Hickel finished third with a mark of 16.73m/54-10.75 and Releford took fourth with a throw that traveled 15.48m/50-9.5. Both threw their second-best marks in the shot put this season on Friday.
Zachary Andrew competed in his third hammer throw competition this season. He threw the hammer 48.17m/158-0 to take third place. Andrew's mark was the second-best of his season.
Natalie Manders threw the shot put for the Cowgirls. Manders finished in ninth with a throw of 12.31m/40-4.75. Manders' throw was the second-best mark in the shot put for her this season.
