Bayless Recognized Nationally After Dominant Weekend
April 16, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball senior Rylee Bayless has received national recognition after an incredible three-game showing over the weekend, as she was named the College Sports Madness National Field Player of the Week and also collected Co-Player of the Week honors from the Big 12. It was the first time Bayless has received either weekly award.
Bayless went 10-for-12 last weekend at the plate, and racked up 13 total bases, 5 runs scored, 4 runs batted in, 3 doubles, 2 stolen bases and 1 walk. She shared Big 12 Player of the Week honors with Oklahoma's Grace Green.
The left-handed hitter recorded at least three base knocks in all three of OSU's victories over Iowa State this past weekend. She capped her dominant display with the 32nd four-hit game in OSU history, as she went 4-for-4 in Sunday's series finale.
Bayless' four-hit day was a career-best showing and she was the first Cowgirl to log four hits in a game since Vanessa Shippy achieved the feat on Feb. 17, 2018 against South Florida.
The senior has posted four three-hit games in Oklahoma State's last nine outings.
After Sunday's series finale in Ames, Iowa, OSU coach Kenny Gajewski said that Bayless' week was "one of the best that I've ever seen."
Tuesday's announcement marked the ninth time that a Gajewski-coached Cowgirl has received one of the Big 12's weekly awards during his tenure, and the second time so far in 2019. It is also the third time a player has been recognized nationally during his stint in Stillwater after Vanessa Shippy collected the honors twice last season.
Bayless and the Cowgirls will look to build on back-to-back Big 12 sweeps tonight when they square off with Tulsa for the second time this season. First pitch at Cowgirl Stadium is set for 6 p.m. and the game will air on Fox Sports Plus.
