April 12, 2019 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— The Oklahoma State track and field teams wrapped up competition at the John McDonnell Invitational with 20 top-five performances Friday at John McDonnell Field.
Cole Verble was the runner-up in the decathlon and set the school record in the event. He overtook Mace Metcalf's mark of 6,192 points from the 2018 Big 12 Outdoor Championships. Verble scored 6,221 points to set the record by 29 points.
Four Cowgirls ran times in the 1,500 meters that would qualify them for the West Regional, as of Friday. Molly Sughroue led the way, winning the race with time of 4:17.81. Jenny Martinez was right behind her, running the race in 4:17.98. Ariane Ballner and Morgan Szekely also ran fast enough time to put them in qualifying position.
Juan Diego Castro won the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:49.58, which puts him at No. 17 in the West Region and No. 10 in OSU history. Castro's time is the quickest by a Cowboy this year and the fastest since 2016.
The Cowboys also made up half of the top 10 in the 1,500 meters. Garrett Calhoun, Isaiah Priddey, Alec Haines, Sukhi Khosla and Bryce Quigley all finished in the top 10. Calhoun's and Priddey's performances were also times that put them in qualifying positions for the West Regional.
