Multi Athletes, Hammer Throwers Open Competition in Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— The Oklahoma State track and field teams opened up competition at the John McDonnell Invitational with select heptathlon and decathlon events as well as the men's and women's hammer throws at John McDonnell Field on Thursday.

Zachary Andrew threw a season best in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 50.53m/165-9. He finished fifth with his best throw since the 2018 Big 12 Outdoor Championships.

Baylor Nelson and Jocelen Ruth also finished in the top 10 in the women's hammer throw. Nelson nearly matched the personal-best mark she set last week with a toss of 48.97m/160-8. Ruth also was close to matching her mark from a week ago, throwing the hammer 48.11m/157-10.

In the decathlon, Jake Dyer is currently in fourth place through five events. He finished in the top five of the 100 meters and the shot put to help him earn 3,503 points on day one.

The remaining of the decathlon and heptathlon events will take place Friday. The rest of the field events and all of the running events will also be contested Friday. Action begins at 10:30 a.m. and updates can be found on Twitter @run4okstate.
