Cowgirls Return To Stillwater, Defeat Gonzaga

STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State's eighth-ranked Cowgirl tennis team defeated No. 38 Gonzaga, 5-2, Friday night at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
OSU came out strong, winning the doubles point. The tandem of Katarina Stresnakova and Marina Guinart struck first on court two, defeating Gonzaga's Domonique Garley and Sara Komer, 6-4.
Shortly after, the first year Cowgirls, Tamara Arnold and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat clinched the doubles point winning, 6-4, over Kate Ketels and Haruna Tsuruta.
"I felt like we came out in doubles very strong," assistant head coach Henner Nehles said. "I thought all three courts played very well in doubles, and that gave us good momentum going into singles."
In singles, No. 124 Sofia Blanco secured the point against Kate Ketels, 6-0, 6-1. The Cowgirls kept the scoring going, as No. 117 Lisa Marie Rioux put another point on the board, besting Graciela Rosas, 6-0, 6-2.
"I think from the start to the end it was a very good match," Sofia Blanco said. "I played very confident, and stuck to my gameplan. I was very happy with not only the way I played, but the way I stayed focused throughout the match."
Bunyawi Thamchaiwat clinched the match, besting Haruna Tsuruta, 6-0, 6-2, on court four.
Playing out the remainder of singles, Tamara Arnold was victorious against Sara Komer, winning, 6-2, 6-3. No. 26 Katarina Stresnakova kept it close, but in the end fell to No. 7 Sophie Whittle, 6-3, 6-2.
No. 83 Marina Guinart's match came down to a tiebreak, but she was unable to defeat Domonique Garley, falling 2-6, 7-5, 10-6, on court three.
The Cowgirls will be back in action Sunday, as they take on Wichita State in Wichita at 10 a.m.
