STILLWATER – Oklahoma State baseball completed its eight-game homestand Wednesday with a 10-7 win over Wichita State at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 7-4 while the Shockers saw their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-6.
The night began with hall of fame coaches Gary Ward and Gene Stephenson presenting ceremonial starting lineups during the pregame meeting at home plate as part of the ongoing celebration of OSU's final season at Reynolds Stadium.
Brett Standlee picked up his first-career win on the mound for the Cowboys as he came out of the bullpen in the fourth and tossed two scoreless innings while striking out four. Standlee was one of eight pitchers used by the Pokes in the game, and Ben Leeper kept WSU off the scoreboard in the ninth for his second save of the year.
Offensively, Colin Simpson had a pair of hits, including a home run, and a season-high four RBIs, while Andrew Navigato also homered and was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Trevor Boone also recorded a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
WSU took an early 1-0 lead on Jordan Boyer's solo homer in the first off OSU righty C.J. Varela, who got the starting nod and allowed three runs in three innings of work.
But in the bottom of the first, Simpson launched a three-run shot to left field for his first home run of the season to give the Cowboys a 3-1 advantage.
OSU went up 5-1 in the third as Simpson and Bryce Carter drove in runs, but the visitors rallied for four runs on three hits in the fourth to tie the score.
The two teams did not remain knotted at 5-5 long, however, as in the bottom of the inning, Navigato blasted his second homer of the season, a two-run shot to left field that gave OSU a lead it would never surrender.
The Cowboys tallied their third consecutive two-run inning in the fifth compliments of Boone's two-RBI single to go up 9-5.
WSU added runs in the sixth and seventh to cut its deficit to 9-7, but the Cowboys added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh on Max Hewitt's RBI single and kept the visitors off the scoreboard over the final two frames to seal the win.
OSU returns to action Friday when they open play at the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic. The Cowboys will face USC (Friday) and No. 2 UCLA (Saturday) on their home fields before a showdown in Dodger Stadium against 16th-ranked Michigan on Sunday.
