March 04, 2019 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Recognized as the best receivers coach in the country in 2017 and a consistent producer and developer of elite receivers throughout his eight-year tenure at Oklahoma State, Kasey Dunn added the title of Associate Head Coach, it was announced today.
Two of Dunn's pupils have won the Biletnikoff Award presented to the nation's top receiver, as Justin Blackmon accomplished the feat in 2011 and James Washington did so in 2017. Tylan Wallace was one of three national finalists for the award in 2018.
Under Dunn's watch, Blackmon set the OSU single-season record for receptions in 2011 and was the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Dunn recruited and coached Washington, who finished his career as OSU's career receiving yards leader and as the second-most productive receiver in the history of the Big 12 Conference with 4,472 receiving yards to his credit. Washington finished his career with 39 receiving touchdowns, a mark that ranks fifth in Big 12 history.
"Kasey has positioned himself to be a head coach in the near future," head coach Mike Gundy said. "His discipline and dedication to OSU football has benefitted our program in a huge way. He has a track record of player success that speaks for itself."
In addition to standout individual performances, the Cowboys have won at least 10 games in five of Dunn's eight seasons in Stillwater. The OSU offense has ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring offense three times, ranked in the top 10 nationally in passing offense six times and ranked in the top 10 nationally in yards per pass attempt four times with Dunn on staff.
Seven of Dunn's eight seasons at OSU rank among the top 10 in school history for scoring offense, total offense, passing offense and passing touchdowns. He has coached seven 1,000-yard receivers in his eight years at OSU.
"I'm thankful for this opportunity and honored to work closer with Coach Gundy to learn more about the things that go into being a head coach," Dunn said.
In 2017, the Cowboys became the first offense in Big 12 history with a 4,000-yard passer (Mason Rudolph), two 1,000-yard receivers (James Washington and Marcell Ateman) and a 1,000-yard rusher (Justice Hill). That same year, Dunn coached what many considered to be the best group of receivers in the nation. Four different Cowboys had at least 500 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns that season, both of which were firsts in school history. For his efforts, he was honored as the national receivers coach of the year by 247sports and by FootballScoop.
With Dunn on staff at OSU, both Justin Blackmon (122 receptions in 2011) and Josh Stewart (101 receptions in 2012) had seasons with more than 100 catches.
The Cowboys open spring football practice next Monday.
