Cowgirls Walk-Off No. 9 Texas
March 29, 2019 | Cowgirl Softball
STILLWATER – The No. 21 Oklahoma State softball team earned its third conference win of the year with a 1-0 walk-off effort against No. 9 Texas Friday night at Cowgirl Stadium.
OSU (25-9; 3-1 Big 12) has now bested the Longhorns in six of the teams' last seven meetings.
"It was a really good softball game, and obviously (Miranda) Elish is everything she was built up to be," coach Kenny Gajewski said. "I thought there were some really good defensive plays by our kids that you may not even think about, and we just got that leadoff walk in the seventh that we needed. It was cool to see Chelsea Alexander be able to score and to watch Michaela Richbourg turn around a day that wasn't very good before that."
Michaela Richbourg, who struck out in her first two at-bats Friday, provided the walk-off run as she grounded the first pitch she saw in the bottom of the seventh back up in the middle, scoring Chelsea Alexander from third.
Alexander was pinch running for Madi Sue Montgomery, who led off the frame with a walk. Chyenne Factor rolled a ball to short right after Montgomery's walk, but two Texas errors on the play kept both the Cowgirl runners on base.
UT intentionally walked Taylor Lynch to load the bases, and making way for Richbourg's game-clinching effort.
"This past week, we've been working on staying on top of the ball, so I've been focusing on that a lot every day," Richbourg said of her game-winning grounder. "That's what we've been doing in batting practice and Coach Gajewski came up to me and said it's just like batting practice. My team told me that Taylor (Lynch) got walked for a reason, and that Texas had no faith in me, but my team had my back and had all the faith in the world in me."
Oklahoma State put itself in position to walk off Friday's game on the back of some solid defense and outstanding pitching.
Samantha Show handled the load against the Longhorns, pinching seven shutout innings in the victory. Show has tossed 10 complete games this year and has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of those outings.
The senior improves to 11-3 on the year with her victory in the circle Friday night.
OSU will look to pick up its second win of the weekend tomorrow night in game two against the Longhorns. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
