FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma State had its four-game winning streak snapped Friday night as 19th-ranked TCU handed the Cowboys a 7-4 setback at Lupton Stadium.
The loss dropped the Cowboys to 16-8 overall and 3-1 in Big 12 Conference play; TCU is now 17-7 and 3-1 in the league.
Jensen Elliott suffered his first loss of the season as the right-hander gave up six runs, five of them earned, in four innings of work to fall to 3-1. The junior had a pair of strikeouts and also walked two.
Offensively, Bryce Carter was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Cowboys, while Jake Taylor and Hueston Morrill also two hits.
TCU got a strong performance from southpaw Nick Lodolo, who struck out eight in seven innings of work to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Morrill led off the game with a double to center field and advanced to third with one out but failed to score. The Cowboys finished the game with nine runners left on base.
TCU jumped out to an early lead on a two-out, three-run home run in the second inning by Adam Oviedo and then extended its lead to 4-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly.
The Horned Frogs continued to get to Elliott in the fourth as three consecutive two-out hits brought home two more runs and tagged OSU with a 6-0 deficit.
OSU finally got on the scoreboard in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs following a pair of singles and a hit batter before an error by TCU second baseman Austin Henry brought home two Cowboys.
TCU added its final run on a solo homer in the seventh before the Pokes cut into their deficit again in the eighth.
In that inning, Carter came to the plate with two on and two out and delivered an opposite-field double to bring home both runners and trim the TCU lead to 7-4.
Nate Peterson and Parker Scott combined to hold the Horned Frogs to one run over the final four innings, with Scott keeping TCU off the scoreboard over the final 1 2/3 innings and striking out three.
The two teams return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. Sunday's series finale has also been rescheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
