Scott, Newsome Earn Season Bests at Texas Relays
March 28, 2019 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
AUSTIN, Texas—Blake Scott and Calahan Newsome opened the weekend for the Oklahoma State men's track and field team on Thursday at the Texas Relays inside of Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Scott competed in Pit 1 of the pole vault competitions and set a new season best. He cleared 5.15m/16-10.75, a mark that only five competitors in his section bested. It was the third time in 2019 that Scott cleared that mark and the first time this outdoor season.
Newsome also finished with a season best in the 400-meter hurdles. He ran a time of 53.05 to finish in second place in his heat. Newsome's time was an improvement of nearly three seconds from his performance at the Arkansas Spring Invitational.
"Both of our competitors got better today," Langley said. "I don't think either one of them is satisfied or happy with the result but they are seasoned athletes and they know it's a process. The bar that Blake jumped is a bar that traditionally gets into the first round so that was good to knock that out, but he wants more and we expect more."
The Cowboys and Cowgirls return to action at the Texas Relays tomorrow with the men's 4X100-meter relay at 9:55 a.m.
OSU track and field also competes at the ORU Invitational and Stanford Invitational this weekend.
Action at the Stanford Invitational begins Friday at 1:30 p.m. and the ORU Invitational starts at 10 a.m. on Friday.
