KANSAS CITY—The Oklahoma State men's basketball team fought until the end, but ended up losing to TCU in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament, 73-70, on Wednesday night.
Yor Anei capped off his freshman season with a phenomenal night. The Overland Park, Kansas, native earned his first career double-double, scoring 17 points and collecting 10 rebounds. He added seven blocks, a mark that is the most by a Cowboy in a Big 12 tournament game.
The Cowboys went on a 16-0 run in the final minutes to take the lead with 25 seconds remaining in the game. OSU fell to TCU thanks to a 3 from Desmond Bane. It's the second time this season OSU has fallen on a game-winning shot in the final seconds to the Horned Frogs.
Anei's seven-block performance moved him into a tie for first on the OSU all-time single-season blocks list. He ended the year with 85 blocks, a mark that matched Andre Williams' 2002-03 blocks total.
Lindy Waters also scored 17 points for the Cowboys. He went 6-for-13 from the field. The junior captain also added a career-high seven assists and four steals.
Isaac Likekele also ended his freshman year on a high note, scoring 10 points and grabbing five rebounds. In his last three games, Likekele totaled 42 points, 20 rebounds and 17 assists. He became the second freshman to ever to put up 100 assists and 40 steals with Marcus Smart as the lone other Cowboy to claim the feat.
The Cowboys ended the year with a 12-20 record and went 5-14 in Big 12 matchups.
OSU has a bright future ahead. The Cowboys roster is without a senior and they have a highly-touted recruiting class coming in next season.
