Assistant Coach Cody Halsey on the Meet
On expectations for this weekend in Iowa
"This weekend is a little different because we're all over the place with all of our athletes. We're going to four different locations. This is one of the times in the year where you don't have to worry about winning and you know it's going to be set up correctly and hopefully you can get a fast time out of it. That's my expectation. Kaylee is going to be in the fast heat of the 800 (meters) and she wants to break the school record. It's going to (be a 58-second 400-meter pace) and hopefully she can hang on from there and come through. Same thing with the guys. Hopefully they can get in their heat and get a new PB."
Â
On challenges of splitting up to four meets
"It's challenging when you're not with the whole team. You have to look up results and you don't actually get to watch them compete. That is probably the biggest challenge. We're in contact with all of the other coaches. Everyone is running and jumping at different time, so that's a challenge, but the biggest one I'd say is not being able to see everyone compete."
Â
Prime Time for Qualification
The Oklahoma State track and field teams split up this week and head to four separate meets.
The majority of the distance runners are traveling to the Pacific Northwest for the Husky Invitational. A select few athletes are going to Ames, Iowa, for the Iowa State Classic.
The jumps group is traveling to jump at the Don Kirby Invitational in New Mexico. The multi athletes, throwers and sprinters are getting a look at Texas Tech's track, which is where the Big 12 Indoor Championships will be held on Feb. 22-23.
The second weekend of February has traditionally been a loaded one for OSU.
The setup is a chance for each group to run their best times or earn their best marks of the season.
In Seattle, the track is oversized compared to other indoor facilities and lends itself to faster times from distance runners.
At the Iowa State Classic, the 800 meters is a fast-paced race and leads to better times. For example, Kaylee Dodd's personal best came at the Iowa State Classic in 2018.
The jumpers are at an advantage in New Mexico because of the altitude. Jacob Fincham-Dukes, Joshua Anadu and Schuyler Wood-Hilderbrandt all have set their personal bests at this meet.Â
The conditions are prime once again to earn qualifying marks.
