Cowgirl Soccer Trio Competing For National Teams
February 27, 2019 | Cowgirl Soccer
STILLWATER – Two former Oklahoma State soccer standouts and a current Cowgirl star are competing for their respective national teams this week.
AD Franch (United States), Coumba Sow (Switzerland) and Kim Rodriguez (Mexico) are each with national teams at various events.
"It's awesome. It's a testament to those athletes and the hard work that they've put in, and hopefully it's a positive reflection on our program that we're able to help in the process of developing those players to get them where they want to be," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "We're just very, very proud of all of them and excited to watch them play."
Franch, a three-time All-American goalkeeper for the Cowgirls, is one of three goalies on the U.S. Women's National Team roster at the 2019 SheBelieves Cup, which begins today in Chester, Pa., with the U.S. taking on Japan.
OSU's career leader with 38 shutouts from 2009-12, Franch is now a star in the NWSL, where she was the league's Goalkeeper of the Year in 2017 and 2018 as a member of the Portland Thorns. She has been a member of the USWNT since 2012 but has yet to earn a cap.
Sow was a part of the OSU program in 2016 and 2017, scoring three goals in 23 games for the Cowgirls' 2017 Big 12 Conference championship squad after missing all but two games in 2016 with a knee injury.
Now a member of the Switzerland National Team, Sow started at midfielder for the Swiss in their 2019 Algarve Cup opener against Sweden today in Portugal.
A sophomore for the Cowgirls last season, Rodriguez was named All-Big 12 and All-South Region in 2018 after starting all 18 OSU games and posting four goals and six assists.
Rodriguez received her first call up to the Mexico National Team earlier this month and was in the starting lineup at defender for Mexico's first match at the 2019 Cyprus Women's Cup today against Italy.
Franch, Sow and Rodriguez continue OSU's history of having its players compete for national teams. Also among that group are Kathrin Lehmann (Switzerland) and Courtney Dike (Nigeria) as well as incoming 2019 freshman Peyton Vincze (Wales).
