STILLWATER—The Oklahoma State track and field is sending the women's distance medley relay team along with Ashton Hicks in the 400 meters and Jacob Fincham-Dukes in long jump to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Assistant coach Cody Halsey said she is excited for the athletes to get the chance to run at the championship meet.
"The NCAA Indoor Championships is one of the best indoor meets in the world," Halsey said. "It's pretty prestigious to run there, so I'm excited for the athletes who get to go."
The Cowgirls' DMR squad came in ranked second in the country with a qualifying time of 10:55.93. Molly Sughroue, Kaylee Dodd, Nicolette Dixon and Sinclaire Johnson set the school record with their performance at the UW Invitational on Jan. 25.
Hicks, the true freshman, ran a time of 45.71 to finish No. 8 in the country in the event. His race at the Big 12 Championships on Saturday not only put him in qualifying position, but it was also a school-record performance.
Fincham-Dukes qualified in the long jump after setting a school record in the event with a mark of 7.99m/26-2.75 at the Big 12 Championships on Friday. The senior from Leeds, England, is a three-time All-American and holds school records in the indoor and outdoor long jump and the indoor 60-meter hurdles.
The NCAA Indoor Championships start March 8 with the men's long jump starting at 5:30 p.m., the men's 400-meter semifinal beginning at 6:42 p.m. and the women's DMR finals closing OSU's day at 8:47 p.m.
