Piccininni Claims Final Weekly Conference Award
February 25, 2019 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Cowboy wrestler Nick Piccininni collected the final 2018-19 Big 12 Wrestler of the week award, the conference announced on Monday afternoon. Piccininni joins teammate Kaden Gfeller as the second Poke to bring home the conference honor this season.
The award comes after the fourth-ranked redshirt junior pinned No. 2 Spencer Lee in the top-three showdown between Oklahoma State and Iowa on Sunday in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The bout pushed OSU ahead of the Hawkeyes early in the 27-12 victory.
Much like the Cowboys' dual season, Piccininni has a flawless record, winning 27 matches and six against ranked opponents. He leads the team in multiple statistical categories including overall and dual wins, bonus-point wins, dual takedowns and dual nearfalls.
The East Setauket, N.Y. native seeks his third Big 12 title on March 9-10, in Tulsa, Okla., at the BOK Center as the Cowboys compete for their seventh-consecutive team title.
