Cowgirl Softball Inches Toward Top 15

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball held steady in the top 20 this week, remaining at No. 20 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll and moving up one spot to No. 16 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.
OSU has been ranked in at least one of the national polls in 14 of the last 16 weeks, peaking as high as No. 15 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 on Feb. 13, 2018.
The Cowgirls are coming off a solid 3-2 weekend at the St. Pete/Clearwater Elite Invitational, where the Cowgirls faced five teams that were either ranked or receiving votes in last week's rankings.
OSU started the week with a pair of tough losses to No. 8 LSU and Notre Dame, but quickly bounced back with victories over Utah, California and Hofstra to finish the weekend off strongly.
The Cowgirls' final two wins of the weekend - a 4-1 victory over California and a 13-2 run-rule over Hofstra - were comeback efforts, as OSU used a fourth-inning rally in both games to flip the scoreboard in the Pokes' favor. OSU scored 10 combined runs in the fourth innings of its final two Florida contests, putting a four-spot on the board against California and six runs to flip a 2-0 deficit into a four-run lead against Hofstra.
Oklahoma State has faced seven teams that have been either ranked or receiving votes in at least one of the national polls during its first 10 games of the season.
The schedule doesn't lighten up much for coach Kenny Gajewski and the Cowgirls this week, as they take on No. 14/13 Arizona, No. 13/15 Arizona State, Colorado State, RV/RV North Carolina and San Diego State during a five-game weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, California.
Action at the Nutter Classic gets underway Thursday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m. CT and continues through the weekend. OSU's matchups against Arizona, Arizona State and North Carolina will be streamed on FloSoftball.
