The loss sets up a Sunday series rubber game, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
Â
OSU managed just six hits in the contest, two those by Max Hewitt, as the Cowboys struck out 16 times in the contest. Colin Simpson drove in both runs for the Pokes.

Behind four different pitchers, the Cowboys' defense committed five errors. Starter Logan Gragg took the loss in his OSU debut, allowing four runs on four hits in just two innings of work.
Â
UTRGV took a first-inning lead off Gragg as Andy Atwood led off with a single followed by a double off the bat of Conrado Diaz. The Cowboys' first error of the day then brought home a run before a sacrifice fly by Anthony Gomez made the score 2-0.

Â
Trailing 4-0, OSU plated its first run in the third on a two-out RBI single by Simpson, and the Cowboys would cut their deficit in half in the fifth, this time when Simpson collected a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded to make the score 4-2.
