FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.– The Oklahoma State women's tennis team fell to undefeated Arkansas, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Billingsley Tennis Center, in a dual that came down to Catherine Gulihur's third set. After securing the doubles point, the Cowgirls came up short in singles play.
Â
"The credit today goes to Arkansas, " coach Chris Young said. "Courtney and Natalie had their girls ready to play, and they competed at a high level. We have to regroup and respond in a better way tomorrow at home and learn from these situations.Â
The Cowgirls took the doubles point from Arkansas when Sofia Blanco and Gulihur gutted out a dramatic, 7-6 (3), victory over the Razorbacks' tandem of Lauren Alter and Jackie Carr. Marina Guinart and Lisa Marie Rioux notched the first doubles win for the Cowgirls, 6-4.
Â
To start off singles play, Tatum Rice knocked off No. 73 Katarina Stresnakova, 6-2, 6-3. Rioux claimed OSU's first singles point, coming out on top against Arkansas' Alter, 6-3, 6-4. Guinart followed suite for the pokes, grinding out a win against Laura Rijkers, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, and maintaining her undefeated record intact. Â
Â
The Razorbacks responded as Miruna Tudor defeated Tamara Arnold, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Shortly after, Martina Zerulo stifled Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, 6-4, 6-4. In the match-deciding point, Gulihur and Carr came down to the final set. Gulihur took the first, 7-5, but Carr came back winning, 6-2, then narrowly took the bout, with a 6-4 win in the final set.Â
Â
The Cowgirls return to the court Saturday as No. 8 UCLA travels to Stillwater for a 3:00 p.m., top-10 showdown in the Greenwood Tennis Center.Â
