What's at Stake in the Texas Bowl
December 26, 2019 | Cowboy Football
HOUSTON – Oklahoma State and Texas A&M square off in the Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl Friday. The two schools have an extended history with one another, primarily spanning the last 25 years when they were both in the Big 12.
Beyond bragging rights, there is more at stake. A closer look at what an Oklahoma State victory would mean.
An Oklahoma State Win Would...
• Mark the ninth time in the past 12 seasons it has won at least nine games.
• Give OSU a 20-10 all-time record in bowl games, ranking among the top two bowl winning percentages among teams with at least 20 appearances.
• Mark the fourth straight season it has won a bowl game, its fifth bowl win in the past six seasons and its eighth bowl win in the past 10 seasons. Four straight bowl wins would mark the longest streak in school history. Only six college football teams enter the 2019 bowl season with a chance to win bowls in four straight years: Oklahoma State, Alabama, Appalachian State, Louisiana Tech, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
• Give it 14 straight wins in non-conference games, marking the second-longest streak in OSU history and only trailing the 15-game streak from 1983-85.
• Improve it to 36-5 in its past 41 non-conference games.
• Mark its fourth straight neutral-site win, tied for the second longest streak in school history.
• Mark its fifth straight win over Texas A&M, extending its longest win streak in the series.
• Make it 11-17 all-time against Texas A&M and 2-3 vs. Texas A&M in neutral site games.
• Improve it to 34-14 in its past 48 games and 48-20 in its past 68 games.
• Make it 69-13 in its past 82 games vs. unranked opponents, dating back to 2010.
• Give it wins in 28 of its past 33 games when playing as an AP ranked team vs. an unranked team.
• Improve Mike Gundy's record vs. members of the SEC to 12-8, with a 4-3 record in neutral site games.
• Improve Mike Gundy's record in non-conference games to 53-11.
• Improve OSU to 9-9-0 all-time in neutral site games against current members of the SEC.
