Somers Named 2019 Big 12 Women's Cross Country Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year

STILLWATER - Cowgirl All-American Taylor Somers has been named the 2019 Big 12 Women's Cross Country Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year, alongside Cailie Logue of Iowa State.

Nominees for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award must be a junior or senior, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20 percent of the team's scheduled contests and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.

Somers, a junior psychology major, currently boasts a 4.00 GPA. Somers' 2019 has been filled with many accomplishments not only in the classroom, but on the course. She helped lead the Cowgirls to their second team title in program history at the 2019 Big 12 Cross Country Championship, placing second individually to earn All-Big 12 honors.

In the NCAA Midwest Regional held in Stillwater, Somers cruised to a second-place finish to qualify for the NCAA Championships. At the 2019 NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Indiana, she turned in an 18th place finish, earning her All-America honors.

Somers has also earned 2019 First Team Academic All-Big 12 honors in track and field.

Oklahoma State Indoor Track and Field will be back in action on Friday, January 17 in Fayetteville, Arkansas for the Arkansas Invitational.
