Cowgirl Soccer Collects All-Conference Accolades
November 05, 2019 | Cowgirl Soccer
IRVING, Texas — Big 12 champion Oklahoma State garnered its most all-conference selections in eight years — and its second most all time — while Colin Carmichael was named the league's top coach for a record sixth time.
Five Cowgirls collected 2019 All-Big 12 honors, marking the most all-conference selections for OSU since it had a program-record seven in 2011. Only three times in school history have five or more Cowgirls earned all-league recognition (2010, '11, '19).
Earning All-Big 12 First Team honors for OSU were defender Kim Rodriguez, who was a unanimous selection, and midfielder Grace Yochum. Three Cowgirls were named to the All-Big 12 Second Team — defender Charmé Morgan, midfielder Jaci Jones and forward Olyvia Dowell. Dowell also earned a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
Carmichael led an OSU team picked to finish seventh in the league in the preseason poll to the Big 12 regular season championship. The Cowgirls won the title with a 7-1-1 mark and are 15-1-3 overall and ranked No. 10 nationally entering the Big 12 Championship semifinals later this week.
The conference championship marked OSU's sixth under Carmichael, who is in his 15th season as the program's head coach. Four of those are regular season titles, including two in the last three years.
For Rodriguez, 2019 marks her second consecutive all-conference selection after she earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors a year ago.
A junior, Rodriguez posted three goals and six assists, a total that ranks in the top 10 in the conference, while helping anchor a defense that has posted nine shutouts and allowed only 13 goals.
Yochum continued to shine a year after earning a spot on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. As a sophomore, she leads the team with 11 goals despite missing four games due to injury, with four of her goals credited as game winners.
A native of Houston, Yochum's 11 goals are the most by an OSU player since 2013, and she is also the first Cowgirl since '13 to record three multi-goal games in a season, which includes posting a hat trick at Iowa State.
Jones is enjoying her best season in her final one in a Cowgirl uniform. The senior from Mustang, Okla., leads OSU with 26 points on the strength of seven goals and 12 assists, all career highs.
Jones' 12 assists ranks fifth in the NCAA this season and is the fifth most in a single season in OSU history, and she has also moved into the fourth spot on the Cowgirls' career assists list with 24.
After missing the 2018 season with a knee injury, Morgan has returned to the pitch and shined as a junior.
A starter in all 19 games, Morgan has tallied five goals and a pair of assists while helping the OSU defense allow just 13 goals and rack up nine shutouts.
Dowell has made a splash in her first collegiate season, ranking third on the Cowgirls with 17 points and leading the team with 56 shots. The Texan has collected seven assists, which ranks second on the team and fifth in the league, while also adding five goals.
