November 19, 2019 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Taylor Somers and Molly Born have both qualified for the NCAA Championships taking place in Terre Haute, Indiana, on Saturday morning. Both athletes qualified for the national meet for their finishes at the NCAA Midwest Regional that took place on November 15 in Stillwater.
Indiana State University is the host of Saturday's championships that will be ran on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. The women's race is slated to begin at 10:15 a.m. CT.
Somers, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, finished as the regional runner-up to Iowa State's Cailie Logue, running a time of 20:28 in the 6K race to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. Somers, who is in her junior season, also finished as the Big 12 runner-up on November 2 at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas.
Born, a sophomore from Lake Quivira, Kansas, finished sixth overall in the debut race on the newly-renovated OSU Cross Country Course, finishing in a time of 20:41.7. Born finished one spot shy of earning an automatic bid, but earned an at-large bid to join her teammate in Terre Haute.
Both Cowgirls have finished every race this season inside the top-10, and both have made significant strides of improvement over the past year. After a 24th-place finish at the NCAA Regional meet in 2018, Somers jumped 22 spots to earn her runner-up finish last Friday. Born was 51st at the regional meet last year and made a leap of 45 spots to place sixth this year.
This year marks the ninth time in the last 11 seasons that the Cowgirls have had representation at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
