Cowboys Discuss West Virginia
November 19, 2019 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Select Oklahoma State football players met with media Tuesday to discuss the team's upcoming conference road matchup against West Virginia this Saturday in Morgantown. Some of their comments:
Linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga
On the team's defensive success:
"Everyone is doing their job. Our guys are flying around. Kolby Harvell-Peel is making a lot of plays. Our defensive line is getting pressure and our back end is starting to hold up. I knew they would all season but it's coming to light now and we're winning games."
On making adjustments:
"Everyone is really comfortable with what we're doing. The little adjustments that are being made are more fluid and everyone knows what they're doing faster and it's allowing us to make plays."
On West Virginia's quarterback:
"He has done a great job in his first game. He won a game on the road in Manhattan, which isn't an easy place to win. We have to come ready and be prepared to win this game just like any other game because you can't sleep on these guys."
Offensive Lineman Dylan Galloway
On West Virginia:
"They have a really good pass rush that makes plays. We've been working as hard as we can to prepare ourselves for what they do."
On coming back from injuries:
"I keep my head up. I just work on getting back, getting better and don't hang my head. I've always been laid back. I just put my head down and work."
On his motivation:
"I'm just trying to do my best and drive people off the ball and get Chuba [Hubbard] going. I think that's one of the things that's been motivating me so much, to see Chuba have such a great season. I'm just trying to help him do as good as he can."
Offensive Lineman Marcus Keyes
On West Virginia:
"They're good. They come off the ball really well and they will be a great challenge for us in our pass-protection game."
On Hubbard's success:
"We love it. We're trying to get that man to 2,000 yards as fast as we can. We love the hype and are trying to run people over to get the biggest runs we can for him."
On the battle at the line of scrimmage:
"I'm ready for it. This is going to be a great challenge for us. They have a great front seven and we have a great front five. We are going to battle it out and see who's going to be more tough. It's going to be great."
Safety Kolby Harvell-Peel
On being named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this year:
"It's a great honor but I was just telling all the guys today how they keep coming up to me and acting like I'm big time, but I'm just glad we got wins in the past three games. That's what matters to me."
On West Virginia quarterback:
"That was his first time coming in and he definitely played well. Coach Knowles is going to come up with a scheme that we can go out there Saturday and execute the best we can. It's the same thing we do week-in and week-out."
On facing West Virginia last year:
"They were a really good team last year. You can't take anybody lightly in the Big 12. You still have to come out there and expect the best from everybody."
Defensive End Tyler Lacy
On dealing with exhaustion at this point in the season:
"You just have to look at the guys beside you and realize that everybody is hurting. So you have to continue to push yourself and push those guys right next to you too."
On learning from defensive coordinator Jim Knowles:
"I've been with him for two years now, so learning his schemes and how he prepares us for the games is kind of mind-blowing, especially with all the work he puts in."
On what a win against West Virginia would mean for Oklahoma State:
"It would boost our team a lot in the locker room, around the stadium and especially in Stillwater. We need as many people to be there for the OU game, to have the stadium on our side."
Wide Receiver Dillon Stoner
On the team's improvement this season:
"It's been good. I feel like we've made improvement every week. More and more guys are buying in. It's an exciting time. We're going to have a good group back next year so I'm excited about where we're at. We're in a good place to finish up the season."
On offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson:
"He's a guy who is well respected around here. He expects the best everyday of us and that didn't change when the injury to [Tylan Wallace] happened. He knew guys had to step up and I think a lot of guys have."
On who has stepped up after Tylan Wallace's injury:
"I think the older guys really have. [Landon] Wolf and Jordan [McCray] are two guys who lead by example. Wolf has a great backstory where he's fought back since he's gotten here and where he's at now. I think a lot of guys respect that guy. Jordan as well. Those guys are solid leaders we look up to."
