Cowboys Discuss No. 23 Iowa State
October 22, 2019 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Select Oklahoma State football players met with media Tuesday to discuss the team's upcoming conference road matchup against No. 23 Iowa State this Saturday in Ames. Some of their comments:
Running Back LD Brown
On his touchdown:
"It was a relief. I always talk about breaking one and giving our team a spark. It came at a huge time to give us the lead."
On the way he runs:
"Stop trying to go east and west and go straight ahead and use my speed. They tell me all the time that I can outrun people and I need to one cut vertical and run. Last week's run gave me confidence to stop tiptoeing and just run."
On Iowa State:
"They're a good team. They play good defense. We're going to take what they give us and hopefully set up the run and pass and be balanced."
Linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga
On practice:
"We know we have to get back to work. It was a tough loss and we were right there until eight minutes left in the fourth quarter and to let that slip through our hands was disappointing. But it's a new week, a new opponent and a new challenge. We have to get to work and practice as if nothing happened."
On Iowa State:
"Iowa State is good. Personally, I think Brock Purdy is the best in the conference. We have to find ways to stop him and get after him; that's our best chance of winning."
On Iowa State's running back:
"There are great backs all throughout this league. Week in and week out, new challenges will arrive and everybody is good. From now on, it's about how we can better ourselves."
Cornerback Rodarius Williams
On focuses against Iowa State:
"Finishing. Watching the [Baylor game], you can see that we were right there. We just have to find a way to finish.
On the team's performance against Baylor:
"I feel like we performed well in the first half. In the second half, we came out flat and we lost the energy and our edge. We had a couple of turnovers here and there, and gave up big plays. Those things have to be minimized on defense."
On limiting big plays on defense:
"Angles. Taking our right angles and mainly, just getting the guy down. We failed that. Tackling as a whole unit and getting a guy down is a huge key to our game."
Cornerback Jarrick Bernard
On limiting big plays on defense:
"We just made some mistakes that cost us big plays. Stuff we didn't zone in enough mentally. Missing tackles and things we can correct."
O what a win at Iowa State would mean:
"It'd give us a good balance of where we need to be. Give us a stride toward where we're headed and know what we need to work on."
Similarities between Baylor and Iowa State:
"They're both good teams. They have great players. Their offenses are pretty good. We just have to come out with our best game and be ready for what they're going to bring us."
Wide Receiver Dillon Stoner
On how to win at Iowa State:
"We're putting in some different stuff this week; starting on it early. We had a good Sunday practice and got back to work today. Everyone's got the right mindset. We know that we just let that one slip away there at the end. We know we have to finish games, so we have to do that this week."
On loss against Baylor:
"Any loss is frustrating no matter how you lose. Obviously, it's tough to win games with turnovers and penalties, which we had a lot of on Saturday. We know what we have to do to put ourselves in a better position and I know we'll do so this week."
On Iowa State:
"They're a really talented group. Ames is always a different place to play with a grass field and the atmosphere. It's a lot of fun and we're excited to get up there."
