Top Five Moments vs. Baylor

STILLWATER – To say Oklahoma State has good recent history against Baylor within the confines of Boone Pickens Stadium would be an understatement.
The Cowboys are 12-1 in their last 13 games played against the Bears in Stillwater, dating back to 1972. Certain games are more memorable than others, but there are a few within that span that stand out.
Let's venture to pick out five of the most memorable showings against Baylor since 1972.
5. David Thompson Goes Crazy – 1996
The Cowboys of 1996 endured some tough times and the season finale against the Bears didn't carry particularly high stakes as both teams had already been eliminated from bowl contention. But what happened at Lewis Field that day could very well have set the tone for a strong 1997 campaign. OSU running back David Thompson carried the ball 41 times for 321 yards and three touchdowns and added three catches for 25 yards to lift the Cowboys to a 37-17 victory. To this day, Thompson's 321 rushing yards stands as the second-best total in school history and the sixth-best total in Big 12 history.
4. Bend but don't Break – 2011
Among the games played in Oklahoma State's Big 12 championship season, this one stands out as one of the most entertaining. The Cowboys stormed out to a 49-3 lead in the third quarter and eventually called off the dogs and won, 59-24, but the game was far more entertaining than the score would indicate. Baylor put up 622 yards of total offense and converted 36 first downs, but the Cowboys found ways to keep them from scoring. On the Bears' first possession of the game, the Cowboys registered a goal line stand to keep them off the board. Then Baylor missed a field goal. Later in the first quarter, OSU's Justin Gilbert picked off a pass in the end zone to take the air out of a third potential scoring drive. Then another turnover on downs and another interception, both of which came within field goal range. In the second half, the Cowboys recovered a fumble at their own one-yard line. All the while, the OSU offense made Baylor pay dearly for its offensive shortcomings. Both of the goal line stops by the Cowboy defense referenced earlier were turned into 99-yard touchdown drives. In fact, six of OSU's first eight drives that day resulted in touchdowns.
3. Rout 66 – 2006
Oklahoma State forced Baylor into committing turnovers on six of the Bears' first nine drives and the Cowboys rushed for 387 yards on 7.2 yards per carry to run away with a 66-24 victory in 2006. The score was actually closer than the game itself, as OSU held a 52-3 lead early in the third quarter before easing off the gas.
2. Biletnikoff Centerpiece – 2017
There were a number of jaw-dropping statistics from the Cowboys' 59-16 win over the Bears in 2017, but the game's biggest legacy may be that it served as the centerpiece for James Washington's Biletnikoff Award-winning season. Washington destroyed the Bears – six receptions for 235 yards, with four catches of 40 yards or longer and went on to secure first-team All-America honors and the Biletnikoff Award presented to the nation's top receiver.

The turf monster tripped up Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty as he had a clear path to the end zone early in the first quarter, then things only got worse for the Bears, who were powerless to stop a Cowboy attack led by quarterback Clint Chelf and were unable to muster any kind of sustained offense against an OSU defense that played out of its mind. The Cowboys were 49-17 winners, but the gap between the two teams felt much larger that day. The Bears entered the game riding a 13-game winning streak and averaged 61.2 points and 685 yards of total offense per game, but were completely dismantled on a cold November night in Boone Pickens Stadium.
