Cowboys Finish Fifth At Big 12 Match Play

HOUSTON, Texas – For the second day in a row, Oklahoma State's men's golf team split a pair of matches and tied for fifth place at the Big 12 Match Play Tournament on Sunday at Houston Oaks.
The Cowboys finished off pool play with a 3-2-1 win over Kansas State during the morning session. OSU finished with a 2-2 mark to find itself in the fifth-place match against West Virginia at the par-71, 7,007-yard layout
Against the Wildcats, freshman Hazen Newman led the way with a 5-and-3 victory over Riccardo Leo, while classmate Brian Stark added a 1-up win over Tim Tillmanns. The Cowboys garnered their third point courtesy of sophomore Aman Gupta's 2-and-1 win over Will Hopkins.
Freshman Rayhan Thomas tied his match with George Clarke.
K-State's two wins came courtesy of a 3-and-2 win by Kyle Vance over junior Austin Eckroat and Jacob Eklund's 5-and-3 win over senior Ferdinand Müller.
The Cowboys and Mountaineers split their six matches to share fifth place at the second edition of the tournament.
Thomas got OSU on the board with a 4-and-3 win over Matthew Sharpstene, while Gupta added a 3-and-1 win over Philipp Matlari. Newman produced OSU's third point with a 2-and-1 triumph over Mark Goetz.
Eckroat fell to Logan Perkins, 3 and 1, while sophomore Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen lost to Nico Lang, 6 and 5. Etienne Papineau tallied a 4-and-3 win over Stark.
The Cowboys will close out their fall schedule at the East Lake Cup, which gets underway on Oct. 28.
