STILLWATER - Former Cowboy and 2016 NCAA champion Nick Miller advanced to the IAAF World Championships final in the hammer throw on Tuesday morning in Doha, Qatar.
Â
Representing Great Britain, Miller threw the hammer 76.36 meters on his second attempt to lock himself into the top-12 out of the 31-man field. Miller will throw for a medal in the final tomorrow afternoon at 1:40 p.m. (all times listed are in CT).
Â
Later in the morning, current Cowboy and 2019 NCAA runner-up Ryan Smeeton ran a time of 8:32.53, the second-fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase time of his career in a ninth-place finish in his heat. The Canada native finished as the runner up at the Canadian World Trials in July to secure his spot on the national team. Smeeton figures to be a big contributor to the No. 8 OSU cross country team this fall.
Â
Two other former Pokes will represent the United States in Doha this week. Former Cowgirl and 2016 NCAA runner-up in the shot put Chase Ealey will throw the shot tomorrow morning at 8:45 in the preliminary rounds. Ealey won a national title at the USATF Outdoor Championships in July to earn her spot on the U.S. team.
Â
2014 NCAA runner-up Shadrack Kipchirchir will also be representing Team USA in Doha, running the 10,000 meters at noon on Sunday. Kipchirchir owns the third-fastest 10,000 meter time in American history, coming in his ninth-place finish at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London.
