Cowboys Discuss Texas Tech
October 01, 2019 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Select Oklahoma State football players met with media Tuesday to discuss the team's upcoming conference matchup against Texas Tech this Saturday in Lubbock. Some of their comments:
Â
Linebacker Devin Harper
Â
On working his way back through injuries:
"It was hard at first. Just going from playing to being hurt and doing nothing for a couple of months. I had a good team behind and good coaching staff to push me. Strength and conditioning coach Rob Glass helped me get back quicker and it worked."
Â
On the linebackers:
"Malcolm Rodriguez is a ball player and Amen Ogbongbemiga is a natural too. We have a lot of people who can play. It helps a lot when you have depth."
Â
Safety Tre Sterling
Â
On preparing for Texas Tech:
"In practice last week, we were more about focusing on slowed down pacing kind of offense. We have speed things up this week against the offense, trying to get more reps in, that's just the style they play. We are doing repeating plays after plays and trying to play hurry-up offense."
Â
On preparing for Texas Tech's quarterback:
"It's just like if we were preparing for Spencer Sanders. We've seen it all winter, all spring and all fall camp. We're just focusing on not getting out-leveraged by anybody. That's really the main key to stopping the quarterback from getting past us."
Â
Cornerback Rodarius Williams
Â
On the style of defense played last week:
"A lot more man and stacking the box. They called A.J. Green's and I's number and we showed up."
Â
On getting back on the road:
"Another goal for the defense is to get a road win this week. We want to come out victorious and not give up any explosive plays."
Â
On the defense overall:
"As you can see from last game, we were able to control their offense. They didn't want to pass and when we stacked the box and made them pass, they were unable to."
Â
Offensive Lineman Hunter AnthonyÂ
Â
On Hubbard's play:
"It gives us a lot of confidence. Hubbard is a great player. We have lots of great players and the line had a part of it as well."
Â
On how the O-Line has developed:
"We got a lot better. We have a lot of young guys getting in and doing great things."
Â
On adjustments made from the start to the end of the game:
"It slowed down and we fixed some things. There were a couple of breaks in there, but coach talked us through and fixed them. I also have a really good group of guys around me who would help me and the sideline was encouraging."
Â
Kicker Matt Ammendola
Â
On facing adversity as a kicker:
"It's like anything else. You have to battle through adversity and bounce back. It happens with everyone in some sort of way, whether it's school or sports. That was one of the games that I saw where I really needed to work on for myself and focus on what I needed to do to get better; and I feel like I have."
Â
On success this season:
"We have a really smooth operation. I have two guys in Matt Hembrough and Jake McClure who I trust and can focus with; and then a great offensive line that gives me a great line of defense when I kick. Props off to them. I couldn't have all my field goals and made all of them without the help of all those guys."
Â
Cowboy Back Logan Carter
Â
On how his second career touchdown catch felt:
"It was different than the number one. The first one was really crazy, to catch the ball, run and dive into the end zone. This one, I had a good idea it was coming. We had a game plan for that play and it was wide open in the end zone. It was right there in front of the student section, which was definitely a different experience. It got really loud, really fast. My position players and the team were right there on me really fast, so it was a special one because it was a touchdown, but different than the first one."
Â
On using the Cowboy Back in the red zone:
"As a whole unit, we do whatever the coaches ask of us. It doesn't matter what it is. We come in and go to work. They draw stuff up, they ask us to do jobs, whether that's blocking or catching passes. It's the coaches' job to figure it out and they will, then we will do whatever they need us to do."
Â
On going head-to-head with Texas Tech's offense:
"I don't think we have to do anything different, other than convert the field goals into touchdowns when we are in the red zone. We have the nation's leading rusher and one of the leading receivers in the nation. I don't think the offense has any issue other than getting it across the goal line, but that's something the coaches will fix and we have faith in ourselves."
