January 31, 2019 | Cowboy Baseball
IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State was picked to finish fifth in the 2019 Big 12 Conference standings in a preseason poll of the conference's head coaches, it was announced today by the league office.
Texas Tech topped the poll as the conference favorite, collecting six first-place votes, and was followed by Baylor, which earned two first-place nods. Coming in third in the poll was TCU, which also earned a first-place vote, with defending league champion Texas and the Cowboys rounding out the top five.
The 2019 season marks OSU's seventh under head coach Josh Holliday, who has guided the Cowboys to a top-two finish in the conference in five of his six seasons at the helm. The Cowboys won their first Big 12 regular season championship in 2014 while finishing second in the league in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Last season, OSU was picked sixth in the preseason poll but finished just one win shy of a league title. The Cowboys won five Big 12 series in '18, four via sweep, and posted a 16-8 conference mark.
OSU finished the 2018 season 31-26-1 overall and made its sixth consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, where the Cowboys advanced to the finals of the NCAA DeLand Regional.
The Cowboys return four position players who started at least 35 games last season, while 10 pitchers who combined for 16 wins return to the staff.
