Cowboys Discuss Kansas Matchup
September 25, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Select members of the Oklahoma State football team met with members of the media Tuesday after practice to discuss their upcoming contest at Kansas. A look at some of the comments:
Cornerback AJ Green
On facing tall receivers:
"It's just a thing that – you know that receivers are going to be tall. They can be tall, small, fast or slow. You just have to prep during the week in the film room to know what you're going up against. We know what we're going up against this week and we're just ready to play."
On practice this week:
"Everybody has bounced back. We know that we have goal to win the Big 12 at the end of the day, and we know what we have to do to get there. I feel like we came out here and practiced hard. Nobody was worried about the last game or anything, and we came ready to compete this week."
On Kansas' offense:
"I feel like their skill positions are very good and they're a well-coached team. Every week, everybody wants to win, so we know that when we go up to Kansas, they're going to come out and want to win."
Quarterback Taylor Cornelius
On how the offense gets back on track:
"We just have to prepare like we always have. There's nothing to change really, but we just need to execute better on Saturday."
On what he has seen from Kansas' defense on film:
"They have a bunch of different stuff that they kind of show and try to disguise a few different things. But we're preparing like usual and how we would for anyone else."
On Landon Wolf:
"He brings a lot of quickness. That's a quick little guy. I love him to death and he's a great guy that runs great routes. He's smart, knows what he's doing and he knows how to get open. We got a bunch of reps together last year. I feel comfortable with any of these guys, but he's a good one for sure."
Wide Receiver Landon Wolf
On overcoming his smaller stature:
"I just use my speed and quickness to try and overcome my weaknesses. My biggest strengths are my speed and my quickness, so I have to maximize those on every rep that I take."
On his chemistry with quarterback Taylor Cornelius:
"It's great. We had a lot of work together on the scout team, and now we're just trying to run the offensive plays that (our coaches) call.
Wide Receiver Tyron Johnson
On the team's response to the loss:
"It's back to work. We don't plan on losing games. It's just how it goes; we win some, we lose some. We lost and we came back Sunday ready to work and today was a good practice. We move forward."
On getting familiar with Taylor Cornelius:
"We are getting in the comfort zone every day at practice. Working on timing, simple stuff, simple balls and simple throws that we need to complete."
On Landon Wolf:
"Walk-on guys have a different type of work ethic. They want and need a scholarship. Landon and Cornelius and other guys come in every day and go hard to the max every day."
On Kansas
"It's a good Kansas team that we can't take for granted. We have to come out and play hard."
Linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga:
On how comfortable he is with the defense:
"[Coach Knowles] has done a great job of teaching us. He just makes an emphasis to make sure that we are ready for the game and that we are prepared. I felt like that has helped me a lot. We all learn both positions, just so we are familiar if one person goes down, we have to be ready to play the other position. It's been smooth for all of us. Coach Knowles is a really good coach."
On team's attitude after the loss:
"We understand what happened. We understand our mistakes. Sometimes in life that happens, so we talked about that as a team and we said we've got to move forward. We can't let that happen again. We were stuck, we didn't know how to bounce back, now we are moving forward. It was a lesson for us as a team, and you always got to improve from that.
On the Canadians on the team:
"It's surprising that there are three of them here. Me, Chuba (Hubbard) and Shane (Richards), we all get along. We all talk about our high school games. Chuba never gets over that he couldn't beat me in high school. We are cool about that, that's something we joke around about too. We were all in this together when we came here."
