Fix Nabs Junior World Bronze
September 22, 2018 | Cowboy Wrestling
TRNAVA, Slovakia— Oklahoma State wrestler Daton Fix earned a third-place 10-0 technical fall over Kyrgyzstan's Bekbolot Myrzanazar Uulu on Saturday. Fix notched a top-three finish for the fourth consecutive year at World competitions with the win.
The redshirt-freshman has qualified for Junior Worlds the past three years and narrowly missed making the senior team this summer. Fix finished No. 1 in the world in 2017 and third in 2016. In 2015, he competed at the Cadet World Championships and also won bronze.
This medal marks the fifth age group in which Fix has placed at World Championships.
After dropping a close semifinals bout, Fix bounced back to defeat Kyrgyzstan's Bekbolot Myrzanazar Uulu. The Cowboy scored six quick points with a four-point takedown and two points on a gut. He took the 6-0 lead into break. Fix shot in on a low single and again on an inside trip without success before picking an ankle and another gut wrench to finish the match off.
Fix was one of four Team USA freestyle competitors to make the medal rounds. Brady Berge was Team USA's second placer of the day (70kg) earning a bronze medal. Aaron Brooks (79kg) and Zach Elam (97kg) wrestle for gold tonight.
Team USA wraps up competition in Trnava tomorrow with freestyle repechage and finals.
