Fix Falls to Naveen in Junior World Semifinals

TRNAVA, Slovakia- Oklahoma State wrestler Daton Fix lost the 57kg semifinals bout to Naveen Naveen, 5-4, Thursday morning at the Junior World Championships. Naveen was the Asia Junior Championships runner-up this past July.Â

Fix took his first two matches in dominating fashion, besting Ahmet Tas of Turkey in a 10-0 technical fall. Fix racked up all 10 points in just over a minute and a half. Tas finished eighth at the event in 2017.Â

In his second match of the day, the Cowboy made light work of the 2016 Cadet World champion, taking a definitive 10-0 match from Andrii Dzhelep (Ukraine) to advance to the semifinals.

In the semifinal match, Fix went up early when Naveen was penalized for passivity and then stepped out. Naveen came back with a takedown and picked up two more on the edge. Fix was dinged with passivity and found himself in a 5-2 hole. With 30 seconds left, Fix notched a takedown of his own to narrow the deficit but was unable to score again in the final stretch.

The Cowboy was one of three Team USA members to advance to the semifinals round. Teammates Aaron Brooks (79kg) and Zach Elam (97kg) advanced to the finals round following Fix's loss.Â

Fix looks to bounce back tomorrow when he wrestles for bronze. Action in Slovakia starts back at 3:30 a.m. CST.Â
