Cornelius, Ogbongbemiga Garner Weekly Awards
September 17, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius received national recognition Monday for his performance in Saturday's win over No. 17 Boise State, as he was named to the Davey O'Brien Great 8 list and included as a Manning Award "Star of the Week." Linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga also received honors for his performance as he was named Big 12 Co-Special Teams Player of the Week.
Cornelius, who was also named the offensive MVP for the game by OSU's coaches, quarterbacked the Cowboys to a 44-21 win over previously unbeaten Boise State. He finished the game 15-for-26 passing for 243 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. On top of that, he added 41 rushing yards and two more touchdowns on the ground. Cornelius is now in the running for the O'Brien Award's national quarterback of the week, which will be announced Thursday at 11 a.m.
Ogbongbemiga earned his first career conference player of the week honor after he blocked a second-quarter Boise State punt in a 7-7 tie to set up the Cowboys on the BSU seven yard line for the go-ahead score in the game. The play shifted momentum to the Cowboys for good, as they led the rest of the way. He also tackled Boise State's Alex Mattison on the opening kickoff of the game to pin the Broncos at their own 18 yard line and help force a punt on the opening possession.
The honor marks OSU's second Big 12 Player of the Week award this season, as running back Chuba Hubbard took home Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week accolades for his performance against Missouri State in the season opener.
