Cowboy Wrestling Unveils 2018-19 Schedule
September 11, 2018 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State wrestling team has released its schedule for the 2018-19 season, which features seven duals at Gallagher-Iba, including a classic showdown with the Iowa Hawkeyes in late February.
Four Pokes brought home All-America honors from the NCAA Tournament in Cleveland last spring, but the Cowboys look to improve upon their 2018 nationals finish. The team is also in pursuit of its seventh consecutive Big 12 Conference title.
"I think when you look at a schedule you ask yourself if it's competitive enough to prepare your team, and I think this season we've got tough matches on the road … and we're on the road a lot," head coach John Smith said. "We also get the chance to wrestle at home seven times, and I like what I see as far as a schedule that can prepare us to be our best at the end."
Smith, in his 28th year, and OSU open the season at the Oklahoma City University Open on Nov. 4, and begin dual competition two weeks later with a road trip to Brookings, S.D. and Minneapolis, Minn.
The team's first brief home slate kicks off on Nov. 25, when the Cowboys from Wyoming come to GIA. OSU faces Oklahoma on Dec. 9, and won't return home for a match again until the end of January. The Cowboys travel to Northern Colorado (Dec. 16) and then make consecutive tournament appearances at the Reno Tournament of Champions (Dec. 20) and the Southern Scuffle (Jan. 1-2).
After the first of the year the Cowboys head east for duals with Princeton (Jan. 12), Rutgers (Jan. 13), West Virginia (Jan. 18) and Pittsburgh (Jan. 19). Smith and OSU head back to GIA on Jan. 27 to face Iowa State, then host Northern Iowa (Feb. 1), Lehigh (Feb. 3) and Air Force (Feb. 8). The team then travels to Columbia Missouri Feb. 16, in hopes of avenging a home loss to the Tigers from last season. To cap off the regular season, OSU hosts Iowa Feb 24.
For the third consecutive year, the BOK Center in Tulsa is host to the Big 12 Championships on March 8 and 9. The NCAA Tournament is scheduled for March 21-23 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Penn.
The team's 2018-19 season tickets are available online at okstate.com/tickets or at 877-ALL-4-OSU.
