STILLWATER—The Oklahoma State cross country teams were again ranked in the top three spots in the Midwest Region in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Week 1 poll, the organization announced Monday.
The Cowboys find themselves once again at No. 2 in the Midwest Region. In the preseason poll, OSU also was picked second.
In their first meet of the season, the Cowboys came in fourth place at the Hurricane Invitational. Bryce Quigley led the way for OSU, coming in 13th place, finishing the four-mile race in 20:55. In Tulsa, Alec Haines and Owen Krewson both had top-20 performances for the Cowboys.
The Cowgirls slid one spot from the preseason poll, dropping from No. 2 in the preseason rankings to No. 3 in the Week 1 poll.
Despite the slip in the rankings, the Cowgirls fared well at their season opener in Tulsa. Sinclaire Johnson won the Hurricane Invitational. She was victorious in the two-mile race in 11:03. Grace Baker also had a standout performance in Tulsa with a third-place finish. Kami Hankins also finished in the top 15.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will be back in action at 11 a.m. on Sept. 28 in Madison, Wisconsin, for the Nuttycombe Invitational for a preview at the national championship course.
