STILLWATER – The 2017 Oklahoma State women's soccer team was honored with the Women's Team of the Year Award at the 2018 March of Dimes Oklahoma Sports Headliner Awards Banquet Thursday night at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
The 2017 Cowgirls captured the sixth Big 12 Conference championship in program history, claiming the regular season crown with an 8-1-0 league mark, and went on to finish the year with a 16-4-3 record after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. The 16 wins marked the fifth most in a season in program history.
OSU head coach Colin Carmichael, along with Cowgirl senior Haley Woodard and juniors Jaci Jones and Julia Lenhardt, attended the banquet to accept the award at Thursday's event. Woodard was the 2017 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and also became the fourth player in program history to earn All-America honors.
"It was a pleasure to represent our program at this prestigious awards banquet. To be recognized along with so many great teams and individuals was truly an honor," Carmichael said. "And to be able to share the evening with three of our team leaders – Haley Woodard, Julia Lenhardt and Jaci Jones – made it a memorable occasion. Our student-athletes are the reason that we are able to achieve the successes that we have enjoyed. Our team was very proud and humbled to be recognized as the women's sports team of the year."
