Gundy Breaks Down Cowboy Football’s Progress
August 17, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – With less than two weeks remaining until Oklahoma State kicks off the 2018 football season, coach Mike Gundy has been pleased with his team's progress. He met with Orange Power Studios following Friday morning's work to give an update on the team. His comments:
Mike Gundy
On what he wants to accomplish before the first game:
"We've done really well. We're going to go into the stadium and do some more game-environment situations tomorrow. Then we'll start to idle down a little bit and give them a break. They start school Monday. Then bring them back Tuesday and pick it up for a few days, but I like where we're at. The last live work we had, scrimmage-wise, I felt like we had too many missed assignments and too many penalties. Hopefully tomorrow we'll clean some of that up and we'll function a little bit better as a unit in the stadium."
On opening at home with the new video board:
"Well the video screen is awesome. It was a good move for us to play on Thursday night. I know at times you can't keep everybody happy, but with the holiday weekend and the students being able to go to the game then roll out of here for the weekend, and the same thing with the fans. A lot of people use that weekend to travel. It gives us a chance to be on (FS1). We've got the number one crew coming in, which is awesome, and the fans and everybody will be excited. I know our players have a lot of work, but they're kind of ready to get playing a game and they're tired of hitting on each other."
On the progress the defense has made in fall camp:
"They're doing well. There's a lot going on and defending our offense is not the easiest thing for a defense, but they're working really hard. It seems like Coach Knowles and the defensive staff are getting things across to them, the information they need. We'll know a lot more in a month. It's going to be fun to watch and that's one of the parts of this team, obviously with a new quarterback, then how the defense adapts to Coach Knowles' system."
