August 14, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius is one of 49 players nationally included on the watch list for the 2018 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, Inc. announced Tuesday.
Cornelius is also one of three players from the Big 12 on the list for the award, which was given to former OSU quarterback Mason Rudolph last season.
The honor is given annually to the nation's top college quarterback, and candidates must be a college senior or fourth-year junior on schedule to graduate with their class. Criteria to be considered for the award include character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments.
After serving as Rudolph's primary backup during the 2016 and 2017 season, Cornelius is prepared for a bigger role as a senior in 2018. His career highlights to this point include a 40-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of OSU's win over Baylor last season, a touchdown run in the 2016 season opener and multiple long completions in late game situations. He finished last season with 148 passing yards and zero interceptions while earning Academic All-Big 12 second team honors.
The winner of the 2018 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award will be honored Dec. 7 at the Embassy Suites Baltimore Inner Harbor Hotel & The Grand.
The Cowboys open the 2018 season Thursday, Aug. 30, when they host Missouri State at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on FS1.
Season tickets and single game tickets are available at www.okstate.com/tickets or by calling the OSU ticket office at 877-ALL-4-OSU.
