Ammendola Named to Watch List for 2018 Lou Groza Award
July 25, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State football standout Matt Ammendola is one of 30 players on the preseason watch list for the 2018 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced Wednesday.
Ammendola, a junior out of Lansdale, Pa., made more field goals in 2017 than any other returning Power Five conference kicker, and he is one of only three kickers nationally who made at least 15 field goals from 30-plus yards out while still connecting at a 75 percent rate.
A two-time first team academic all-conference honoree, Ammendola also brings a streak of 11 consecutive field goals made into the 2018 season. He was the Big 12's leading scorer with 139 points (23 FG, 70 PAT) last season while also leading the conference and ranking fifth in the FBS with 23 made field goals.
The list of 2018 Groza candidates will be cut to 20 semifinalists on Nov. 1, and a panel of more than 300 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers will select the top three finalists from that list by Nov. 20. That same group will select the national winner, who will be announced on Dec. 6 during The Home Depot College Football Awards.
The three finalists will also be recognized during a celebration in Palm Beach County, culminating with an awards banquet at West Palm Beach's Kravis Center for the Performing Arts on Dec. 3.
The Cowboys open the 2018 season Thursday, Aug. 30, when they host Missouri State at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on FS1.
Season tickets and single game tickets are available at www.okstate.com/tickets or by calling the OSU ticket office at 877-ALL-4-OSU.
