Fix Earns Third-Straight World Team Bid

FARGO, N.D. – Oklahoma State redshirt-freshman Daton Fix earned his third-straight World Team bid on Sunday at the U.S. Marines Junior Nationals, defeating Brandon Courtney 2-0 in a special wrestle-off. Fix sealed his place on the team outscoring Courtney 21-0 in the two matches.
Courtney was the 2018 Junior World Team Trials Champion and a familiar opponent for Fix, who defeated the Arizona State Sundevil in the 2017 Junior World Team Trials as well.
Fix dominated throughout both matches scoring quick takedowns and turning Courtney rapidly to pick up back points. In round 1, Fix dominated in a second-period 11-0 victory. The second bout ended in a 10-0 technical fall for Fix about two minutes into the contest.
After tearing through World Team Trials, Fix fell to Senior World Team member and World silver medalist Thomas Gilman in the Final X series in a pair of close matches in June. The effort was enough to earn Fix a special Junior World Team wrestle-off at 57kg in Fargo.
Fix won a Junior World Title back in 2017 while helping lead Team USA to a team title in Finland.
Incoming Cowboys Jalin Harper, Gavin Stika, Colt Denney and Travis Wittalake were also in action at the FargoDome on Sunday. Harper, Denney and Wittlake each advanced to the round of 32 Sunday evening, while Stika worked his way into the consolation round of 32.
Junior World Championships are set to take place in Trnava, Slovakia, Sept. 18-23.
